Anna Jóelsdóttir

About

In Anna Jóelsdóttir’s works, elements that resemble stripes, roadways, or architectural fragments interact with small shapes, lines, and squiggles. Positioned against a neutral background, this collision of things ordered and chaotic evokes an urban environment experienced from many perspectives or topographic mappings of unnavigable landscapes. Jóelsdóttir’s evocations of spatial dislocation are inspired by her search for a center in a globalized world. For her 12 x 12 exhibition, Jóelsdóttir, a native of Iceland, presents both large- and small-scale paintings alongside a group of daily sketchbooks.
