Ben Gest

About

At first glance Ben Gest’s photographic images appear to be unaltered documentations of everyday human interactions. Upon closer inspection, the image, created from several separate shots, describes a human interaction that never actually took place. Shifts in perspective, changes in focus, and the joining of totally unrelated events create a subjective organization that confounds the viewer's sense of photographic space. The ability of a photograph to create objective truth while still eliciting an emotional response also comes under scrutiny. By organizing details, moments, and interactions Gest extends the possibilities of photography.

Gest received his MFA in photography from Columbia College.
