Live Election Results Viewing with State Matters

About the program

Vote early and then convene in the MCA’s Commons to watch the election results with fellow community members and representatives from State Matters, a local organization that educates Illinois residents about their state and local government.

The evening includes live music interludes, relaxing activities, and flash cards to refresh your political vocabulary. Drinks and snacks are available for purchase at the beverage cart. Come early and catch the Mobile Street Art Cart with William Estrada at the MCA Plaza.

State Matters

State Matters is a group of artists, designers, developers, policy wonks, and writers who founded the group in 2017 to make Illinois government clear and unintimidating. As a nonpartisan educational organization, they aim to engage, educate, and inspire — regardless of who you are or where you're coming from. State Matters provides some basic answers about how the state works (or doesn't).

William Estrada

William Estrada was born to immigrant parents and grew up assembling memories in California, Mexico, and Chicago. His teaching and art making practices focus on exploring inequity, migration, historical passivity, cultural recognition, self-preservation, and media representation in marginalized communities. He documents and performs experiences in public spaces to transform, question, and make connections to established and organic systems through discussion, creation, and promotion of counternarratives. He has worked as an educator and artist with Telpochcalli Elementary, Chicago Arts Partnership in Education, Hyde Park Art Center, SkyArt, Marwen Foundation, Urban Gateways, DePaul University's College Connect Program, Graffiti Institute, Vermont College of Art and Design, Prison + Neighborhood Art Project, and The School of The Art Institute of Chicago.

This program is produced in partnership with State Matters and the MCA’s Partnerships and Engagement Liaison Gibran Villalobos.
