Tuesdays on the Terrace James Sanders's Proyecto Libre

About

Enjoy an evening of free music on the MCA’s Anne and John Kern terrace and sculpture garden with our annual summer performance series highlighting artists from Chicago’s internationally renowned jazz scene.

Violinist James Sanders confidently crosses stylistic borders yet stays true to the jazz violin legacy, his Caribbean heritage, and his rigorous classical training, creating music that transcends category. In 2013, Sanders formed Proyecto Libre, an ensemble that pulls equally from free improvisation and Afro-Latin traditions. In the spirit of experimentation, performers vary from performance to performance. Core members include bassist Harrison Bankhead, drummer Avreeayl Ra and Latin percussionist Jean-Christophe Leroy. Joining them at the MCA will be saxophonist Edward Wilkerson Jr.

Sanders is a regular presence in Chicago’s creative music movement and has performed around the world. He also leads the long running Latin jazz group James Sanders’s Conjunto.

Hosted by Al Carter-Bey, WHPK 88.5 FM
