Read/Write Library Chicago

About

For its MCA program, Read/Write Library installs a temporary pop-up library of Chicago-focused publications. Visitors are invited to read, browse, and discuss these selected works with the Read/Write organizers. In addition, interdisciplinary librarian and artist Amanda Meeks leads a participatory workshop on making, storing, and preserving artists’ books.

Based in Chicago's Humboldt Park neighborhood, Read/Write Library is a new model for open, location-specific archiving of independent and small press media, housing an all-inclusive collection of Chicago-related media produced by and for the community. Through collection building and community outreach, the Library aims to ensure that Chicago's many diverse voices are heard and have the chance to inform our city's shared cultural memory.
