Susan Philipsz mined the history of Chicago's political movements along with its musical legacies to create a new sound-based work, We Shall Be All, specifically for the MCA. This workshop follows the thread of her project to continue our own conversations about working as educators in contemporary Chicago.
What are some of the unique issues facing educators who promote dialogue and interaction in Chicago classrooms? How can we help facilitate our students’ conversations about local issues? What are some ways that student voice can activate politics? Using writing, drawing, and audio exercises, we explore ways that dialogue about local citizenship can shape our relationship to the city, and examine the role that a museum experience can play in these transformations.
MCA teacher programs are FREE for Illinois teachers. Participants receive CPDUs. Vouchers for free parking in the MCA garage are provided pending availability.
