About

Meridith Gray was our indefatigable chief registrar for many years. She expertly guided us through some of our most demanding and complicated exhibitions, which are also the ones that cemented the MCA's reputation for professionalism and experimentation, including Goshka Macuga, Isa Genzken, Doris Salcedo, Kerry James Marshall, and Takashi Murakami, to name only the most recent. She now works as Director of Registration and Collections at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles.

What was the first exhibition/performance you saw at the MCA?

Andres Serrano at the old MCA location (and before I worked for the MCA). The first exhibition I saw at the current MCA location was Art & Film. That was on view when I started working here.

What is the first job you held at the MCA?

Assistant Registrar, Exhibitions

What is your favorite MCA memory?

There are too many to list!

Who is your most memorable colleague or artist? Why??

I don’t have a single favorite artist. Kerry James Marshall is one of my favorite contemporary artists. I think his paintings are brilliant—both in style and subject matter. He’s a down-to-earth, genuinely nice person, and a real pleasure to work with.
