Pansori Project ZA
Inspired by Bertolt Brecht’s A Good Woman of Setzuan, emerging performance group Pansori Project ZA creates a modernized pansori, a genre of traditional Korean music, integrated with western dramatic elements. The work, titled Pansori Brecht SACHEON-GA, reimagines Brecht’s epic drama using humor and satire, translating his world into contemporary times. The work premiered in 2007 and was subsequently coproduced by Pansori Project ZA and Korea’s Doosan Art Center in 2008 and 2009. Pansori Project ZA is funded by grant programs of the Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation and is currently participating in the 2010-11 artists-in-residence program at Uijeongbu Arts Center in South Korea.
