One of Australia's great storytellers, famed photographer and performance artist William Yang shares his intimate perspective of two historically marginalized communities: Australian Aborigines and migrant Germans in South Australia. With arresting imagery and a wry sense of humor, Shadows is a moving story about the lives of outsiders, told through the eyes of a gay Chinese Australian. Part social documentary, part personal observation, it is punctuated with Yang's powerful photographs and accompanied by Colin Offord's haunting and lyrical music performed live. Yang employs a sensitive but voyeuristic approach to impart a quiet but powerful experience as he orates personal stories of the ignored and dispossessed in Australia.
