UBS 12 × 12: New Artists/New Work:
Chris Uphues

September 3 – October 2, 2005

Chris Uphues's paintings and drawings are densely detailed compositions of stars, flowers, shapes, and cartoon-like faces that are inspired by a range of popular references such as the art of Keith Haring, Tony Fitzpatrick, and Karl Wirsum; comics from the 1950s and 1960s; video games; and food packaging. Although resembling ballpoint pen doodles, they are painstakingly painted in acrylic.
