UBS 12 × 12: New Artists/New Work:
Clare Rojas

November 1 – 30, 2002

Clare Rojas paints, draws, makes animated films, writes, and performs in a band. Her idiosyncratic paintings comprise a dark fantasy world in which adolescents are confronted with monsters and animals are transformed into surreal characters. The color, texture, and size of the paintings are reminiscent of nineteenth-century Japanese woodblock prints. Rojas received a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and a MFA from The School of The Art Institute of Chicago.
